A slow-growing succulent with fleshy, greyish green leaves and stems, Senecio kleiniiformis ‘Spear Head’s angular, pointed leaves truly do bear a striking resemblance to its namesake. A South African native, this variety is hardy only to Zone 9, and is thus well suited to life in a container arrangement in all but the most temperate of climates, serving as a unique ‘filler’ component when paired with more broadly leafed succulents.

Able to reach up to 12 inches tall and wide at maturity, ‘Spear Head’ prefers plenty of bright light to achieve its best growth and to encourage yellow blooms – which are highly attractive to pollinators – during the summer months. Beyond this, its care is quite simple. A porous soil mixture, a well-draining pot, and ample airflow around the leaves and soil surface will shield against rot or pests, while a thorough yet infrequent watering routine will go the rest of the way towards preventing excess moisture accumulation.

As ‘Spear Head’ grows, its tall stems can become prone to flopping over – if this occurs, the plant is able to tolerate moderate pruning to negate some of the top-heaviness.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
