A dense yet delicate succulent native to South Africa, watch chain features tiny, light green leaves packed around thin, branching stems in a manner that replicates the square pattern of its namesake. The leaves are so densely packed, in fact, that they hide the stems completely, lending the mature 12-inch plant an especially bushy appearance, which may begin to trail as the stems reach their full length.

With typical water needs for a succulent, this variety will thrive when watered according to the ‘soak and dry’ method, and when housed in porous soil within a well-draining pot. To keep this heavily offsetting plant flourishing, be sure to place it in a well-lit spot of your home, such as a south-facing window, or outdoors during the warmer months – while it can tolerate light shade, you will see the most prolific growth in brighter conditions. During the winter months, however, take care to protect this tender succulent from frost.

In the spring to mid-summer months, watch for tiny yellow flowers to appear along the stems. Despite watch chain’s adorable appearance, it can be toxic when consumed, so keep out of reach of little hands or paws.

All plants are shipped bare-root with the exception of House Plants and Plant Club Subscription Boxes. House plants and succulents will ship from separate locations and may arrive at different times. Orders ship Monday-Friday each week. Please allow 1-3 business days for your order to be processed. We ship within the USA and its outlying territories ONLY. Read our full policy here.

Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
