Senecio stapeliiformis
DESCRIPTION
The gorgeously unique markings up the pencil-like stems of S. stapeliiformis combine soft, tan spines with deep green patterns that appear almost hand-drawn, all on a backdrop of pale, silvery green. During the spring and summer months, large orange blooms provide a stunning contrast against the up to 10 inch tall stems, making it even more of a standout in any succulent collection.
It is not uncommon for the stems to blush a soft pink or even purple when exposed to ample bright sunlight. Extremely drought tolerant, overwatering is the greatest risk to this specimen, so be sure to adhere to a thorough yet infrequent watering routine, and pot within a well-draining and porous soil mix.
Preferring temperatures above 50 degrees Fahrenheit whenever possible, it is important to protect it from frost during the winter months, to avoid permanent damage to the somewhat brittle, thin stems which are its hallmark.
PLANT SIZING & APPEARANCE
Plant sizing is based on the diameter of the nursery pot (2", 2.5", 3", 4" etc), not the plant itself. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grow in depending on availability or time of year. While we do our best to ship plants as similar to those pictured as possible, please keep in mind that all plants are unique from one to the next, and display color, shape, and growth variation based on current environment, time of year, and other contributing factors. Please note that we ship our plants as dry as possible in the fall and winter months to prevent root rot or freezing. They will plump back up after planting!
